Latest Updates from Our Project:

Good News, We Think
about 1 year ago – Tue, Feb 07, 2023 at 07:46:01 AM

Folks,

It looks like the Royal Mail in the UK (where our proof is coming from, for those keeping track) has begun processing packages going to the U.S. again. Yesterday I received a package that was shipped 3 weeks prior to ordering the FIRST proof. I hope that means that the proofs are currently moving through the system and I receive at least one soon. I will keep you posted on this! IF I get this in the next couple of weeks, I should be able to order the full print run! That should put us shipping to all of you in early March and delivering digital rewards about the time I place the print run.

Additionally, per our last update the Demonology zine (featuring classic D&D Demons stated for OSE) has launched! For bearing with us through all of this, you get a discounted tier! You can find the zine here:

 Demonology For OSE

As always, thank you for your support and patience!

Small Update
about 1 year ago – Sun, Jan 29, 2023 at 12:31:54 PM

Alright folks, a few things:

1. We are moving forward as previously discussed.

2.The latest OGL info isn't great, as they don't appear to be making what we have all been using for 23 years irrevocable, but it's better than what we have seen. We, like NG are still moving away from the OGL.

3. I still do not have a proof in hand. You will know and get pics as soon as I have it.

4. That said... ZineQuest 5: We will be producing our last OGL 1.0A compatible product for ZQ5.  This will be a book of demons including the classic D&D demons and Demon princes on the OGL! We need to OGL to have access to some of the Demon Princes "as we know them" over the past nearly 50 years of D&D, so we will be using it for this project. For your patience on this project, there will be special tiers for you to get this zine (both in physical and/or pdf) at a deep discount. These tiers will require your backer number from this KS to get them at the discount.

Thank you for supporting us and hanging in there over this past month and going forward as we follow NG and the way they choose to move forward.

News of the World
over 1 year ago – Sun, Jan 22, 2023 at 12:07:23 PM

Alright folks.

I have been talking back and forth with Gavin on what is possibly happening in the future with OSE licensing. I have decided, with the odd language in OGL 1.2s proposition, that I am going with this on being an OSE compatibiltiy logo release with NO OGL in it. To end, I am getting express permissions from Gavin for all common terminology and borrow abilities from OSE monster blocks. Things like wordings as to how a similar creature's petrification works etc. I am waiting for Gavin to get back to me regarding what  he wants me to send for approval. Once this is all set, I'll be double checking with editing and getting you all your PDFs. I know I talked about this weekend, but I would like to have the official sign off for an OSE compatible product in the wild.

Second item. I now know what is going on with the hardcover print proofs. Mixam was our printer for this one. There was another OSE KS (I believe it was one of the ones from Third Kingdom Games) that fulfilled this past fall. I recall seeing a hold up because Mixam's sewn binding machine was down. They were supposed to get someone in from Germany to fix it. Whatever happened, it was never fixed. All sewn hardcovers are being printed in the UK. Those of you in the UK, and those of you in other countries that are awaiting UK fulfillment of any KS right now will be aware of the problems that Royal Mail has been having. It seems there is even a stong chance that the proof I thought was lost in the mail is still in transit sitting at a hub in the UK. So, I may have 2 unedited proofs coming my way. Either way, I cannot order the physical prints (after Gavin's approval) until I can verify that the proofs are good and nothing is being cut off.

Stay tuned for more news! I will update regarding NG and your PDFs as soon as I know something.

Moving Forward
over 1 year ago – Mon, Jan 16, 2023 at 09:40:10 AM

Some good news and what you can expect now.

  • 1. If WOTC stays true to their latest update and 1.0A content published before public release of 2.0 is still protected, this project is good.
  • 2. I have spoken with the Moss Master and if WOTC does not stay true to their word in the next couple of days, he is willing to give me express permission to use OSE terms stat blocks and compatibility for this one anyway.
  • 3. This means, I intend to have a draft of Creature Companion I to all of you in PDF, by this weekend! This will likely be released via Dropbox, via a backer only update here.
  • 4. The PDFs of the KS exclusives for the Duck and Merchant books will be released to you about a week following the main book.
  • 5. Physicals of both Creature Companion and both exclusive booklets will be coming sometime after I approve the proof of CCI. I am still uncertain when that will arrive. The replacement copy is "in progress" but has not been mailed yet. When I order these I will be ready to release final PDFs based upon the same files.
  • 6. Add on and back catalog PDFs will be released with final pdfs. Add on and back catalog physical books will, obviously, be shipping with the other physical books.
  • 7. I will update with firmer dates for releases beyond the initial PDFs once I have a better printing timeline.

Thank you!

Please Stand By
over 1 year ago – Mon, Jan 09, 2023 at 09:41:33 AM

Hello everyone,

A couple things, both bad. First, the less bad.The initial proof I was waiting for on the main book never arrived. It is currently assumed lost in the mail. It will be reprinted and resent. Despite a delay, that is actually decent news, considering everything else that got unleashed into table top gaming last week.

I assume that most of you know about the news related to the OGL 1.0a, which Old-School Essentials is produced under. This also means that this product would be produced under the same license, as it is designed for OSE. That said, Necrotic Gnome released a "non-statement" regarding this over the weekend. You can read it here. This announcement also has a link to an article regarding the OGL news, if you have not heard.

Overall, I will likely be following along with NGs contingency plan. That said, this also assumes that the license is released swiftly, or that WOTC backs down and announces that the 1.0a license will stay in effect.  I cannot send product to print at present with the threat that by the time I receive it I will not be able to give it to you.

If we do not have any word regarding the license, one way or another, in the next 2 or so weeks, I will post here again with a contingency plan to get this to you, possibly with minor changes to the stat blocks etc. I will keep everyone abreast of the situation as it develops.

I am truly sorry for all of the problems that WOTC is potentially bringing to our community, and the additional hold up that this is causing.
